Chastain Classes: Spring 2008Painting the Figure in Watercolor Tuesdays, 1:30-4:30,March 25 - May 27, 10 weeks Learn to take advantage of the quick and vibrant medium of watercolor to improve your understanding of the figure. Using both clothed and nude models, participants will use a variety of wash techniques to explore gesture, structure, composition, and anatomy. Drawing and painting will both be emphasized in this class. Figure drawing experience is a prerequisite for this intermediate level class. Watercolor experience is a plus but not required. A model fee of approximately $50 will be collected at the first class. --- Supply List Watercolor for All Levels Tuesdays, 6:30 - 9:30pm, March 25 - May 27, 10 weeks Students will explore and refine skills for paint handling, value, composition, and color in watercolor. The class will include live demonstrations as well as lots of individual instruction on how to take their watercolor skills to the next level. Students may work from a still life set-up or bring their own reference materials. --- Supply List Advanced Figure Drawing Thursdays,1:30pm - 4:30pm, March 27 - May 29 In this course students will refine their understanding of the structure of the human figure. Using a variety of media, including chalk and tinted paper, students will explore the effects of light and shadow on the major planes of the figure. This is an ideal course for students who want to take their figure drawing skills to the next level. A model fee of approximately $50 will be collected at the first class. --- Supply List Head and Faces in Any Medium (two classes) Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Explore the excitement and challenge of drawing and painting the head in the medium of your choice. Working from a live model, participants will learn specific techniques for rendering heads and faces that are solid, convincing, and alive. The course will begin with rendering the head in black and white, and color will be introduced as the quarter progresses. This course will include a combination of exercises and live demonstrations. Drawing experience is a prerequisite for this intermediate level course. A model fee of approximately $50 will be collected at the first class. --- Supply List Plein Air Painting in WatercolorSaturdays, 1 - 4 p.m., April 5 - May 17, 7 weeks This course will introduce students to plein air painting in watercolor. Although working outdoors has its own challenges, these challenges are far outweighed by the pleasures of being out in the fresh air and the sense of excitement that is captured in the work. Demonstrations will focus on how to see recognize value and color and how to simplify what you see. The first class will meet at Chastain; subsequent locations will be announced at the first class. --- Supply List |
